Overview
Trott Gateway is a companion app for the Trott IoT vehicle monitoring system. It connects your Android device to a local Trott CM5 hardware gateway over WiFi or Bluetooth. No data is sent to the internet or any cloud service.Local Only
Used for journey tracking — recording GPS breadcrumbs (latitude, longitude, speed, heading) during active journeys.
Location data is sent only to the local Trott CM5 device on your network, not to any external server.
Also required by Android for WiFi and Bluetooth scanning.
Bluetooth Data
Used to discover the Trott CM5 device via BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) advertisements.
The app reads the device name to extract the IP address for connection.
No Bluetooth data is stored or transmitted externally.
WiFi & Network Data
Used to scan for nearby WiFi networks, check hotspot status, and resolve the device hostname via mDNS.
Network information is used locally only for device discovery.
Sensor Data
Accelerometer and gyroscope data is available to the dashboard for vehicle motion detection.
Sensor data is processed locally and sent only to the Trott CM5 device when requested by the dashboard.

Device identifiers (IMEI, advertising ID)
Usage analytics or crash reports
Data Storage
All data (journey breadcrumbs, sensor readings, camera snapshots) is stored on the local Trott CM5 device, not on your phone or tablet. The app caches only the last known device IP address in local storage for faster reconnection. This cache can be cleared by clearing the app data in Android settings.
Data Sharing
We do not share any data with third parties. No analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or cloud services are used. The app communicates exclusively with the Trott CM5 device on your local network.
Data Security
All communication occurs over your local WiFi network (hotspot or home network).
HTTPS is available for encrypted communication when accessing the dashboard directly via browser.
The app does not transmit any data over the internet.
Permissions
Location — GPS for journey tracking; required by Android for WiFi/BLE scanning.
Bluetooth — Discover and read the Trott device IP from BLE advertisements.
Camera — Flashlight/torch control only. The app does not access the camera for photos or video.
This app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
